What do information technology analysts do? 

Information security analysts plan and carry out security measures to protect an organization’s computer networks and systems. They provide core services in support of applications used across the company's refining organization. This role requires strong troubleshooting and effective communication skills. The ability to work in a fast paced team environment and multitask is a must. Given the technical nature of the team and the broad range of skills needed, analysts should be self-starters that can learn quickly and work on specific technical tasks with little supervision. 

Your responsibilities may include: 

  • Planning and implementation of application upgrades and maintenance updates including communication of system changes and outage to the users
  • Working with clients to understand issues and troubleshoot application support issues in a timely manner
  • Strong focus on prioritizing and managing application requests with direct focus on delivering outstanding customer services while maintaining application stability
  • Strong focus on ensuring systems and processes are compliant with corporate standards
  • Working in teams to ensure quality application support and delivery to end user
  • Participating on project teams to ensure proper alignment of IT solutions to the business requirements as well as IT policies and procedures

What are companies looking for specifically? 

Basic/Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 2 or more years of experience providing primary support of corporate applications including in-house developed and vended solutions
  • Experience working with vendor support to implement solutions and provide oversight of vendor support

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in MIS or Computer Science or other IT related
  • Customer focused and strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with vendors, business groups, and other internal resources
  • Ability to multi-task in a team environment and support internal and external customers
  • Self-motivated and self-directed to solve problems quickly and creatively
  • Proven relationship building with internal support groups, customers, and third parties
  • General Server knowledge (Event Viewer, Computer Management - Users and Groups, DCOM Settings, etc.)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including well as the ability to adjust the communication to meet the intended audience's need
  • Ability to work through issues in a calm and organized manner
  • Direct experience with Oracle and/or SQLServer.  (Includes knowledge of tables, views, stored procedures, scripting, indexing, etc.)
  • Results-oriented with strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Teamwork - Ability to work as a team by engaging / supporting others
